The Course Design Spa, now in its ninth year, is an event designed to help faculty prepare their courses for upcoming semesters. Held twice a year in August and in January, the Course Spa brings together faculty and academic support services for a "one-stop-shopping" opportunity. Faculty can discuss syllabi with faculty ambassadors from the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning; review research assignments and library resources with Iwasaki librarians; explore classroom technology with the Instructional Technology Group, and much more. Review some of our past spa "treatments" below.
In response to the Faculty Support Survey distributed in January 2023, faculty indicated strong interest in programming from offices including Internationalization & Equity, CITL & ORCs. Course Spa leadership is proposing a pilot Deluxe Spa. Deluxe Spa will be comprised of longer-form presentations to engage faculty in deeper learning on topics they indicated a strong interest in; specific areas that received high response rates in the survey include programming on Faculty Development & Diversity, Course & Student Learning Support, and Mental Health & Belonging.
Deluxe Spa will be a day of presentations, panels, and workshops followed by a day of in-person one-on-one consultations and a day of virtual one-on-one Zoom consultations pending faculty interest. Because faculty expressed interest in your area of expertise, we are inviting your office to develop learning opportunities for Deluxe Spa. The pilot Deluxe Spa will be capped at 50 faculty participants.
