How to find, read, and download eBooks from the library.

Reading Ebooks Online

Common Ebook Providers

The majority of the library's ebooks are hosted on two platforms, ProQuest and EBSCO. We also purchase ebooks from other platforms like Taylor & Francis, De Gruyter, Cambridge University Press, and Bloomsbury. Depending on the platform, your options for reading will be slightly different.

ProQuest

To access a ProQuest ebook, click the purple "Read Online" button on the left side of the screen. ProQuest has two reading interfaces, depending on whether the book is in PDF or EPUB format, but both of them include a variety of features like bookmarking, citing, or downloading.

For more on the ProQuest interface, see the official ProQuest Ebook Central documentation.

EBSCO

To access an EBSCO ebook, click the "Access now (eBook)" option underneath the book's title and author information at the top of the page. If there is a button that says "Access options" instead, click that and select either "PDF full text" or "EPUB full text." Unlike in ProQuest, these both share the same interface. If you don't see an "Access now" or "Access options" button, check the top of the page for a gray bar that says "Welcome, Guest. Sign in to your institution for full access to your library’s resources." Click this and log in to EZProxy to get access.

Check out EBSCO's guide and in particular this EBSCO video tutorial for more information about the EBSCO ebook interface.

Taylor & Francis

To access a Taylor & Francis (T&F) ebook, choose "Download" or "Read Online" at the right side of the page. Unlike most ProQuest and EBSCO ebooks, T&F ebooks are all DRM-free, which means you can download a permanent copy of the ebook to your device without preventing other people form accessing it. T&F also has a feature-rich reading interface which allows you to navigate based on a table of contents, highlight, and bookmark, although some features require that you create an account with Taylor & Francis.

Here's the official Taylor & Francis documentation for using an ebook on their platform.

De Gruyter

De Gruyter also allows you to permanently download a DRM-free ebook using the large blue "Download book" button. To read the book online, select the "Contents" tab underneath the book title and author information and choose which chapter to read. Once reading, you can change chapters using the table of contents on the right side of the page.

Cambridge University Press and Bloomsbury

These providers do not generally offer a full book view or download. Instead, like De Gruyter, select the Contents tab and scroll down to view or download chapters (downloaded chapters are DRM-free and you may download as many as you want). Once you are viewing a chapter, use the left hand table of contents to navigate through the book.
