Public Performance Rights

What are PPR and when do you need them?

Showing films IN your classroom

Do I need PPR to show a film in my classroom?

No. The one exception to the PPR requirement is when a film is shown during a regular class meeting as part of the curriculum. This applies to in person class meetings and does not allow for the digitization of library DVDs. Digitizing a film from DVD produces a complete copy of the film and is thus - without permission from the copyright holder - a violation of copyright law. The Iwasaki Library has no provision for digitizing and hosting unlicensed content. You can place a Media Reserve Request using the Reserves Request Form.
