Sensory Friendly Study Room

In Summer 2022, the Iwasaki Library constructed a brand new study room in response to ACCESS Student Disability Union’s 2021 Advocacy Project. Located in Walker room 336 (to the right of the Service Desk in the main library), the Sensory Friendly Study Room includes:

  • dimmable overhead lights
  • standing lamp
  • light-therapy lamp
  • task light
  • white noise machine
  • rocking chair
  • bean bag chair
  • rolling stool

The sensory friendly room is available on a drop-in basis and cannot be booked in advance.

The Sensory Friendly Study Room also houses the library's Adaptive Technology Workstation. This workstation includes:

  • flatbed scanner
  • software that reads scanned or electronic text aloud (Kurzweil 3000 version 13.13)
  • speech-to-text software (Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12.5)
  • word prediction software (Co:Writer 7)
  • visual mapping software (Inspiration 9.1)

A microphone-equipped headset is available at the Service Desk for use with the Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech-to-text software. For more information, see the Adaptive Technology Workstation policy.
