The Instructional Technology Group (ITG), the Iwasaki Library, and Student Accessibility Services (SAS) are working together to identify and offer proactive support to faculty who may need to provide text-to-speech accommodations for students in their upcoming courses. It takes time to ensure a course’s digital documents are accessible, and when instructors are given an accommodation letter after the semester begins, this can create an extra burden for them. That’s why we’ve created a workflow that begins with a pre-semester consultation between the instructor and ITG, continues with ITG and the Library collaborating to create, locate, or purchase accessible versions of required readings, and ends with ITG helping instructors incorporate these accessible documents into their Canvas courses as early as possible. We’re with you every step of the way as we work to give students the most equitable experience possible in all of their Emerson courses. Please email ITG@emerson.edu if you have questions about this process.
