Learning Outcomes

M.F.A. in Popular Fiction Writing & Publishing

Graduates of the MFA in Popular Fiction Writing and Publishing will exhibit the following Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs):

  1. Students will develop their creative writing skills as they create, revise, and collaborate on manuscripts.
  2. Students will read and analyze literature with the goal of gaining an understanding of the history of various genres of popular fiction, in addition to their context within the fields of literature and creative writing.
  3. Students will explore the variety of opportunities for publication and understand the benefits and limitations of each for the contemporary writer.
  4. Students will demonstrate the ability to produce and market a body of writing that reflects an understanding of the literature and the marketplace.
  5. Students will collaborate with one another to edit and help develop their creative work.

M.F.A. in Publishing & Writing

Following are the Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for the Publishing and Writing program:

  1. Students will develop and demonstrate a range of publishing skills in disciplines such as writing, editing, design, production, marketing, sales, and product development and for platforms such as print, web, mobile, video, and social media.
  2. Students will demonstrate critical thinking skills and knowledge about the history and future of publishing, new technologies, literary forms, business models, professional ethics, and issues of diversity and equity.
