The Office of Academic Assessment partners with the numerous offices and staff at Emerson that support student learning, including:
The Office of Academic Assessment (OAA) supports Emerson College's accreditation efforts by collecting aggregate data to assess student learning within academic programs, recommend data-driven program revisions, and support continuous improvement to provide the equitable and effective learning experiences for students.
OAA contributes to self-study materials pertaining to Standard 8: Academic Excellence, as well as other standards as appropriate. Members of OAA staff meet with the NECHE visiting team to provide context and further information on Emerson's student learning assessment efforts.
During the NECHE visit in 2022, the team commended Emerson for its progress on student learning assessment over the last ten years. They also noted that the building blocks are in place for a strong assessment plan, and that it will require a systematic and sustainable approach that must be one faculty believe is effective and efficient, and we agree.
Throughout our conversations, the team also noted that assessment must expand beyond a primary focus on undergraduate majors on the Boston campus to address learning at all levels, locations, and modalities. To achieve this, we have to build a more sustainable, less labor-intensive process. OAA is in the process of doing so through the implementation of Canvas Outcomes.
