LEAP

Learning, Equity, and Assessment Program (LEAP)

The Learning, Equity, and Assessment Program (LEAP) is a college-wide initiative designed to ensure all Emerson students graduate with the skills and knowledge valued by the institution. LEAP achieves this by fostering collaboration between faculty and OAA staff in three key areas:

  • Developing Clear Learning Goals: LEAP works closely with faculty across academic departments to define what students should learn and how those learning goals are effectively communicated to current and prospective students.
  • Promoting Equity in Assessment: LEAP plays a vital role in helping faculty design assessments that fairly and accurately measure student learning. This ensures all students have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and knowledge.
  • Continuously Improving Student Learning: LEAP actively supports departments in regularly assessing student learning outcomes. The program utilizes this data to inform the continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices across the college.

Benefits for Students:

  • Clear Expectations for Success: LEAP ensures students have a clear understanding of what they're expected to learn and how their learning will be measured.
  • Equitable Opportunities to Demonstrate Learning: All students benefit from fair and inclusive assessments that allow them to showcase their knowledge and skills effectively.
  • A Culture of Continuous Improvement: The LEAP program plays a key role in ensuring the college curriculum and teaching methods are constantly evolving to best meet the needs of all students.

Benefits for Faculty & Departments:

  • Support in Developing and Assessing Learning Goals: LEAP provides faculty with valuable resources and expertise to design effective assessments that accurately measure student learning outcomes.
  • Opportunity to Share Best Practices: LEAP fosters collaboration among faculty across departments, creating a platform to share best practices and improve teaching and learning college-wide.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: LEAP empowers departments with assessment data that can be used to make informed decisions about their curriculum and teaching practices, ultimately leading to a more effective learning experience for all students.
