Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

The United Nations elaborates that this goal "is about promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all. The COVID-19 pandemic precipitated the worst economic crisis in decades and reversed progress towards decent work for all. Although the global economy began to rebound in 2021, bringing some improvement in unemployment, recovery remains elusive and fragile. By the end of 2021, global economic recovery had been hampered by new waves of COVID-19 infections, rising inflationary pressures, major supply-chain disruptions, policy uncertainties and persistent labour market challenges."

Communicating Sustainability for the Green Economy
Communicating sustainability to consumers provides a set of challenges for marketers that do not necessarily follow all the rules of other types of marketing communication. In many ways the concept of sustainability challenges the core ideals of promoting consumption. Accordingly, this book identifies for researchers and practitioners the barriers that keep customers from engaging in environmentally sustainable consumption and find ways to overcome those barriers.
Film and Everyday Eco-Disasters
Eco-disasters such as coal-mining accidents, oil spills, and food-borne diseases appear regularly in the news, making them seem nearly commonplace. These ecological crises highlight the continual tensions between human needs and the environmental impact these needs produce. Contemporary documentaries and feature films explore environmental-human conflicts by depicting the consequences of our overconsumption and dependence on nonrenewable energy.
The Environment and the Press
This history of environmental journalism looks at how the practice now defines issues and sets the public agenda evolving from a tradition that includes the works of authors such as Pliny the Elder, John Muir, and Rachel Carson. It makes the case that the relationship between the media and its audience is an ongoing conversation between society and the media on what matters and what should matter.
Covering the Environment
Covering the Environment serves as a primer for future and current journalists reporting on environmental issues across all types of media. This resource has been developed to train advanced undergraduate and graduate journalism students to cover the science and environment community, writing print and broadcast stories to a general audience. It also serves as a guide for working journalists who cover the environment in their work.
