Famous Speeches of the '60s: MLK, Jr., Aug. 28, 1963
Widely recognized as one of the greatest speeches of the 20th century, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech has been virtually etched into the collective consciousness of every successive American generation. Delivered to an audience of over 250,000 participants in the historic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, King's speech was an impassioned plea for nonviolence, integration, and full social equality. The Library holds several books and videotapes related to the speech, with excerpts and transcripts available in print and online.
